Artwork Information
This vibrant painting captures the moment when a carver is about to strike his chisel with his mallet to remove a chip of wood from a larger-than-life form. The impending chisel cut is hidden from view allowing the carver to face the moment in private. A huddle of onlookers bear witness to the event and one can imagine them seemingly holding time still… yet bestowing mana onto the transformation and future of contemporary Māori art.
