Artwork Information
Hutchinson was an itinerant Scottish sculptor who specialised in the depiction of indigenous peoples. He visited New Zealand from 1900 to 1902, following a period spent working in Hawaii.
Artist Gottfried Lindauer trained as a portrait and figure painter in Vienna and emigrated to New Zealand in 1873. He immediately began to travel widely, painting Māori who either sat for him in his studio or from photographs. His legacy is represented in this exhibition with his many portraits and genre paintings of Māori. (Enduring Nature: Hoki Atu Hoki Mai, 2004)
