Don Driver
Artwork Detail
This large assemblage was originally housed in the McKechnie Brothers office foyer in Bell Block, Taranaki, where much of the surface metal came from. Its metal offcuts and cross-sections
are divided into geometric sections with a strong emphasis on colour and material quality. After 1965, Don Driver explored the basic language of abstraction in his painted and collaged ‘reliefs’, which then moved further into incorporating found objects, textures and colour. Despite its landscape format, this work offers a shiny face to the new technology society of the late 1960s.
