Gottfried Lindauer

Arts Patron Henry Partridge built up an unrivalled collection of paintings by the Bohemian-born Lindauer, which he presented to the people of the Auckland province in 1915. Part of that gift includes a series of large-scale genre scenes dealing with traditional customs and activities from everyday life. Kono or food baskets and kete, near completion, are being woven from harakeke or indigenous flax.
