Star Gossage
I have sung my way through the world

Artwork Detail
Ko te peita a Star Gossage he mātanga toikupu e whakapuaki ana i te tauoranga o te tangata me tōna whanaungatanga ki te whenua. I roto i te I have sung my way through the world, 2018, e kitea ai te wahine e whakatā ana, he hākerekere ngā karu, ko ngā waewae e pōkaihia whakatetaha ana. Kei te tītaha-pokapū te wahine e takoto ana i waenganui i ngā hawahawa peita mō te pātītī, te onepū, ngā kapua whakapipi. Ara mai ai te paraihe toi a Gossage i te peita ānō nei he waiata e whakaahua ana i te wairua o te whenua, ko ngā tae o te rangi kaunenehu he karaka, he māwhero, he kahurangi.
Star Gossage paints with poetic mastery to express human life in a symbiotic relationship with the land. In I have sung my way through the world, 2018 a resting woman is pictured with her meditative eyes downcast and her legs folded to one side. The off-centre figure lies among pooled paint daubs of grass, beach sand and billowing clouds. Gossage’s brushwork emanates from the picture plane like a waiata (song) describing the spirit of the land with twilight sky colours of orange, pink and blue.
