Neo

Artwork Detail
“I work on loose canvas. It feels more casual that working on pre-stretched rectangles, and I find a quickness and freedom in this way. The canvas and the shiny black paint that I use also relate to Ngatu and Tapa painting. The cloth pages pile up in the studio, and I rework motifs over and over. I was trying to make a face with a single line, and Neo came at the end of a long sequence of unsuccessful attempts. The title refers to the single line, and to the main character in the movie The Matrix. I had finally found The One.”
