Charles Blomfield
Our Harbour from Birkenhead

Artwork Detail
Charles Blomfield frequently painted his small canvases directly from nature. This panoramic view from the ridge at Birkenhead records the topography of the Auckland landscape and coastline as well as its picturesque beauty. On a clear day the Coromandel ranges are still visible in the far distance as depicted here by Blomfield, who seems to have minimised signs of settlement to further emphasise the pristine state of the harbour.
