After preparatory training for the study of law (1885-88), Bonnard entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. By 1889 he had determined to become a painter. He because an associated of the Nabis group after its founding n that year and, with Edouard Vuillard, later was termed an "intimist" on the basis of an appearling treatment of quiet, gracious themes most of them domestic.
