Owen Connors, born in Greymouth in 1992, is an artist and writer based in Tāmaki Makaurau. Connors graduated from Elam School of Fine Arts in 2015, and later studied at the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa University, Colorado. As a writer and poet, their work has been published through Artspace Aotearoa, Matters Journal and Minarets.
Connors’ work is figurative, often dreamlike and fantastical, and is explicitly situated in queer identity and community. Their practice tends towards cooperative, communal processes of making which underlines their belief in the important social role of art beyond commodification.
In 2023, Connors was recipient of a Colin McCahon House Artist Residency in Auckland. In the same year Connors was awarded the Rydel Art Prize and will receive a solo exhibition at Tauranga Art
