Gordon Walters: New Vision
About
Gordon Walters is one of New Zealand’s most influential modern artists. Across six decades he explored the potential of a few simple geometric elements with a singular focus, creating works of exactitude and refinement.
Gordon Walters: New Vision is the first comprehensive survey of the artist’s complete body of work and draws on paintings from major public and private collections across New Zealand. The exhibition provides an in-depth look into the history of Walters’ development, and reveals the different art forms which fuelled his vision and inspired the creation of his own unique visual language. The original black and white koru paintings of the 1960s are brought back together for the first time and are shown alongside never-before-seen paintings, studies and notebooks.
Gordon Walters: New Vision is a partnership project between the Dunedin Public Art Gallery and Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki with support from the Walters Estate.
Gallery entry is free for New Zealand residents, children 12 and under and Gallery Members. An admission charge applies for international visitors.

Visiting
Groups
Booking is essential, please book at least two weeks in advance by emailing gallerytours@aucklandartgallery.com to guarantee your access to the exhibition. Booked groups will be prioritised and large groups will be admitted into the exhibition in smaller groups.

Parking
We recommend parking at Auckland Transport's Victoria Street car park. A mobility parking bay is located on Kitchener Street. Disabled parking is available at the Victoria Street car park.

The exhibition is on show at Auckland Art Gallery from Saturday 7 July – Sunday 4 November 2018. The exhibition is open during normal Gallery hours, 10am–5pm.
Gordon Walters: New Vision has been curated by Lucy Hammonds (Curator, Dunedin Public Art Gallery), Laurence Simmons (Professor of Film Studies at the University of Auckland) and Julia Waite (Curator, New Zealand Art, Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki).

Entry is FREE for New Zealand residents, children aged 12 and under, and Gallery Members and their Guests. International visitors are charged $20. A concession rate of $17 applies to international students with ID.
