Join us for an audio described tour of Forever Tomorrow: Chinese Art Now, created for Blind and Low Vision visitors.

This 90-minute tour offers rich verbal description, guided interpretation and curatorial insight into this exciting contemporary exhibition. Led by Forever Tomorrow: Chinese Art Now exhibition curator H E Wilco and audio described by Nicola Owen of Audio Described Aotearoa, the tour is a unique opportunity to experience Forever Tomorrow: Chinese Art Now in an accessible way.

This is the only opportunity to experience this exhibition with audio description and the exhibition curator.

Bookings are essential and places are limited to 13 people. 

Due to limited capacity, we can only allow 1 sighted companion per Blind and Low Vision attendee.

In addition to booked attendees, 2 sighted companion volunteers, provided courtesy of Blind Low Vision NZ, will be available to support Blind and Low Vision visitors throughout the tour.

 

About the exhibition

Forever Tomorrow: Chinese Art Now is a captivating showcase of the dynamic and diverse contemporary Chinese art scene. This exhibition features groundbreaking works by leading Chinese artists, reflecting on cultural identity, social change, and modern life. Experience a vivid journey through innovative paintings, sculptures, installations, and multimedia art that challenge traditions and embrace new perspectives.

 

What to expect

Please meet in the main foyer between 10:15am and 10:30am, where you will receive your headset before the tour begins.

At 10:30am, the group will take a moment for introductions.

The group will then make its way to Level 1, where the tour will begin with an overview in the Level 1 foyer. From there, visitors will be guided through selected works in Forever Tomorrow: Chinese Art Now, with audio description provided by Nicola Owen of Audio Described Aotearoa.

The tour will conclude at 12pm, when headsets will be returned. Visitors are warmly invited to stay afterwards for optional tea and biscuits from 12pm to 1pm.

About the curator

H E Wilco

H E Wilco is a curator, writer and exhibition developer with nearly three decades of experience delivering major museum projects in New Zealand and China. Based in Shanghai for almost a decade, he worked in the city’s private art sector before founding an exhibition development practice specialising in curatorial research and exhibition strategy. He has curated exhibitions for leading museums and galleries across China, with a particular focus on post-1980s Chinese artists, and writes regularly for international arts publications.

Audio Described Aotearoa

Audio Described Aotearoa is dedicated to making arts, culture and live experiences more accessible for blind, deafblind and low vision people across Aotearoa. Founded in 2014 by Paul Brown and Nicola Owen, the organisation works with venues, festivals and creative organisations to remove barriers to participation through live, recorded and written audio description, consultancy and training. Their ethos centres on inclusion, dignity and shared cultural experience, ensuring visual information is thoughtfully translated into words so audiences can engage more fully and independently. By partnering with organisations nationwide, Audio Described Aotearoa helps create richer, more welcoming experiences for all.
