Saint Margaret (ca.1045-93) was the grand-daughter of Edmund Ironside, King of England. She spent her childhood in Hungary, and after the Norman Conquest (1066) she married Malcolm III of Scotland. She was canonized in 1249 in recognition of her social and civil good works. She is shown landing with the King by her side, prior to her coronation. Runciman's use of tense poses and gestures alongside billowing cloth and windswept hair introduces a sense of drama missing from the more passive but worthy, historic narrative.
