Artwork Information

In 1938 Russell Clark moved to Wellington to draw illustrations for both the New Zealand Listener and the school journals of the Education Department. He discovered subjects throughout the inner city, which was then crowded with newcomers because of the war effort. Clark had a close affinity with Māori and it is for these images that he is best known. This large exhibition watercolour testifies to his outstanding ability with the medium.
