Artwork Information

The easily kindled mahoe tree is one of the best woods to scrape with a hardwood, such as totara, to make fire. Mahoe was also used by early P?keh? in the production of charcoal to make certain kinds of gunpowder. (Enduring Nature: Hoki Atu Hoki Mai, 2004)
