Artwork Information
Theo Schoon and Rita Angus were introduced by Dr Roger Duff, Director of the Canterbury Museum. They became close friends, painting portraits of each other and sharing a great sympathy for the other’s art. What is remarkable about this photograph is that it captures both a gesture and posture that was very characteristic of Angus.
Schoon believed that the best photographs were taken in natural light. Here, the late afternoon light of early summer reinforces Angus’ reflective state.
