Artwork Information
This is considered to be one of the most famous and inspired images in the series. Job dreams of a vision of God, but instead of a figure bathed in glory, he is half devil with cloven hooves, who hovers over Job's sleeping form as if to suffocate him. God's outstretched arms highlight the choice for Job - to writhe with sinners in the flames of Hell, or strive for a less-clearly defined Heaven, its view impeded by the intertwined serpent who destroyed the Paradise of Adam and Eve.
