Artwork Information
The juxtaposition of image and speech bubble, ‘Now, my little ones, for France!’, combined with the word CRAK to represent the sound of the gun, is class comic/Pop style. Lichtenstein once said that he wanted to paint a picture so despicable that no gallery would hang it. Such statements are drawn from a powerful reaction to the values and tastes that the artist perceived in his own society. (Andy and Friends, 1999)
