Artwork Information
The Avon River meanders through central Christchurch and has many willow trees along its banks that date from early colonial settlement. This drawing reveals Rita Angus' concerns with trees and their annual life cycles, as well as their changing appearance within nature. Plant-forms as symbols of growth and decay fascinated the artist throughout her life.
