A Woman Standing, Attending to a Man, with a Standing Male Nude Seen from the Back
circa 1790-circa 1792

Artwork Information
After Fuseli arrived in London, having left his home in Zurich in 1763, he showed a portfolio of his drawings to Joshua Reynolds. The latter was so impressed that he said that if he had been their author and were offered £10,000 a year not to practice as an artist, he would reject the offer with contempt. Reynolds’ praise was enough for Fuseli to give up his father’s dream of him being a preacher and throw himself into the task of perfecting his art.
