Ossip Zadkine
Messagers du jour (Daily messengers)

Artwork Information
On arriving in Paris in 1909, Zadkine worked in the studio complex of La Ruche, in the company of artists such as Léger, Archipenko and Chagall, before moving to Montparnasse. He emulated the original experiments of Picasso and Léger in painting, translating the analysis of space and volume into three-dimensional objects. Like many other artists of the time he was influenced by African sculpture, but also the kind of religious and folk art of his native Russia.
