Artwork Information

Like Charles F Goldie, Robert Bevan studied in Paris at the Académie Julian in the early 1890s, before travelling to Brittany where he worked with the Pont-Aven group. Renoir encouraged him to return again in 1893-94, when he met and was influenced by Gauguin. On returning to work in England in the new century, he continued to use a divisionist or pointillist style in his paintings, producing colour effects which are similar to those of Signac.
