Artwork Information
When staying with his family in Taranaki in October 1935, Woollaston wrote to Rodney Kennedy that his brother Brian ‘has a most modellable visage – mouth & nose’. He painted a portrait which he was thrilled with, stating that it was ‘teeming with adolescence’, but later commented that he ruined it reworking the painting. This charcoal sketch from the same year may also portray Brian. (Intimate Portraits, 2005)
