Marie-Thérèse Kneeling, Contemplating a Sculpted Group (Marie-Thérèse agenouillée contemplant un groupe sculpté)
1933

Artwork Information
'Here is a Spaniard possessing the oldest French recipes (Chardin, Poussin…). Objects and faces follow him wherever he wants. A dark eye devours them and between the eye through which they enter and the hand by which they leave they are subjected to a rather singular digestive process. Furniture, animals, and people are welded together like lovers. In this metamorphosis none of their objective identity is lost. Picasso changes the natural order of the elements, but he always arrives at the same end.' Jean Cocteau
