Artwork Information
Pinus thunbergia also called black pine, is the Japanese black pine native to coastal areas of Japan. One of the oldest trees on Earth, it is noted for the decorative black bark which forms on old specimens. Frequently, the trunks are trained from a young age to profile the beauty of the bark’s scaly patterns and crusty texture. Being resistant to pollution it has become one of the pre-eminent ornamental trees in Japanese public parks.
