Artwork Information

The sculpture marries two organic materials; an Argonaut paper nautilus shell that envelopes a four billion year old meteorite recorded as found in 1906 in Norrbotten, Sweden. Both materials are foreign to the land, together they embody the ideas encircling time, mystery, mythology and questions of origin. The sculpture is simultaneously delicately fragile and tremendously heavy, an object that explores histories, movement, migration and materiality.

Zac Langdon-Pole has worked in a variety of media including, sculpture, performance, photography, film, textiles, poetry and installation. Fundamental questions of authorship, identity, origins, history, value and authenticity are intended to be opened up to multiple interpretations through his work.

Langdon-Pole was born in New Zealand in 1988, graduated from University of Auckland’s Elam School of Fine Arts in 2010, and from Städelschule, Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Frankfurt am Main in 2016. He lives and works in Darmstadt, and Berlin, Germany
