This photograph is the first self-portrait and published image of Peter Peryer, appearing first in the October/November 1974 issue of PhotoForum as part of their ‘Reflections’ assignment.

Peryer’s winning photo was published alongside photographs by J.P. Godfrey and Phil Barclay. The text for Peryer’s self-portrait reads: “Peter Peryer does not give his photograph a title, but there is a strange tension set up between what appears to be the camera photographing its own reflection, and the fact that the camera view actually goes beyond the reflection to include the photographer and trees as well.” - PhotoForum, October/November (1974), 10
