Artwork Information
The inscription on the back of the work reads 11 Nikau Street, Mt Eden, which was Joseph Michael Foy’s residence after he moved to Auckland in 1909. This inscription would possibly indicate a date of c.1909-1920, however the writing seems to be applied later – as it is in pen and features different penmanship.
The mount for the photograph is stamped with ‘Foy Bros Thames N.Z.’. It is therefore most likely that the photograph dates from the Thames period (1872-1909).
