Artwork Information
While relatively little is currently known about the three years during which Theo Schoon maintained an art studio in Bandung between 1936 and 1939, he worked assiduously on both drawn and painted portraits as well as photography.
After returning home from the period Schoon undertook art training at the Rotterdam Academy of Fine Arts, he travelled extensively in the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia).
Together with his mother Barbara Schoon, he visited various Buddhist temples. It is likely that these journeys included a visit to Borobudur, Java’s most famous temple.
