Young men in the fiery furnace

Artwork Information

Ravilious became a member of the Society of Wood Engravers in London, which had been founded by a group of artists including Eric Gill, Paul and John Nash. Gwen Raverat was also an elected member. Through these connections he became involved with the Golden Cockerel Press, producing different series of woodcuts as illustrations to texts. Gill and Gwen Raverat were also employed there. Song of the Three Holy Children illustrates the Old Testament story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego (Book of Daniel) and depicts the three young men walking around unharmed in the fiery furnace.
