Although a prodigious sketcher in preparation for his sculpture, Henry Moore only took up printmaking later in life, eventually making more than 700 prints in the purpose-built studio he had constructed near his house. The refined and reduced forms of these standing and reclining figures, more familiar perhaps in his sculptures, are reminiscent of the great, weather-beaten monolithic stones that stand as mysterious sentinels on England’s prehistoric sites.
