Artwork Information

The characters in Tanu Gago’s photographs are people from his everyday life and the wider Pacific community. He sets them in familial or communal cultural spaces, giving visibility to their individuality and reminding us of the role community plays in forming a person’s identity.

Leo and Daniel represent masculinity in an open manner, asking viewers to question received ideas about fa’afafine or the Samoan third gender.
