Tanu Gago’s portraits are the result of complex staging and direction. The location, participants, props and lighting effects combine to create images that look like stills taken on a film set. Gago initially trained as a filmmaker but began a new media practice to refine his storytelling.

Daniel responds to how New Zealanders and Pacific communities see contemporary Pacific males. It addresses the shades and ambiguities of Pacific masculinity.
