Artwork Information
Christopher Wood spent much of his brief adult life travelling throughout Europe, and became friends with Picasso and Cocteau, demonstrating a chameleon-like ability to absorb such painting styles into his own. Wood and Ben Nicholson were the first people to buy a work from Alfred Wallis and were much impressed with the energy of his work. Like Suzanne Cooper, in this painting Wood focuses on the seaside pub and the everyday activities of the colourful locals, as the subject of his work.
