Family Tyranny/Cultural Soup

Artwork Information
Paul McCarthy ritually oversteps boundaries with works that confront social taboos. 'Family Tyranny and Cultural Soup' are savage improvised parodies of sanitised TV sit-coms, starring artist Mike Kelley as the ‘son’ and McCarthy as a tyrannical and infantile father. McCarthy often features in his performance
videos, presenting himself as a primal subject in an unholy theatre of sex and violence. Corrupting the categories and distinctions that underpin our social order, McCarthy’s sinister comedies messily dissect popular culture and its inherent social conditioning.
