An obscure portrait extracted <<daisy chopper accelerated>>

2003

Artwork Information

Jacqueline Fraser’s delicate constructions combine the elegance of fashion illustrations with allusions to the barbaric realities of our time. Fraser’s chic protagonists, often clad in designer fabrics, are juxtaposed with titles that refer to antidepressant drugs or military weapons. In An obscure

portrait extracted, this fashionista is blindfolded by her New York faux fur hat while, we are told, a ‘daisy chopper accelerated’. The 6800 kilo BLU-82 bomb, used by the United States military in Vietnam and Afghanistan, is known as the ‘daisy cutter’ for its ability to flatten a forest.
