Artwork Information
Born in Dordrecht, Aelbert Cuyp worked for most of his life in Holland, travelling along most of the country's great rivers to the eastern part of the Netherlands and along the Rhine. Cuyp combined the low horizons and waterways of the Netherlands with depictions of warm sunlight and atmospheric cloud effects, earning him the nickname of the Dutch Claude.
