Head of a Woman

Artwork Information

This intimate study of a sleeping woman evokes legends of princesses asleep in their castles like memories deep in the unconscious mind waiting to be awakened. In art, sleep may also signify death and this figure, with her eyes closed and throat exposed, seems vulnerable and perhaps open to danger, whether from within or from the voyeuristic eye of the spectator. (Headspace, 2002)
