Artwork Information
This reproductive print records a painting by the German artist Albrecht Dürer that was once in the Arundel Collection. The painting is dated 1497 and is now in the Gemäldegalerie in Berlin. Hollar dedicated this print to the Countess of Arundel and it was made in the same year as his portrait of her after Van Dyck. The two prints may have been part of a charm offensive to encourage the countess to provide support for Hollar’s artistic activities, a role previously played by her husband.
