Arco di Druso alla Porta di Sebastiano in Roma (Arch of Drusus at the Porta S. Sebastiano in Rome)
1765

Artwork Information
The small views that Piranesi made of Rome were initially commissioned by Fausto Amidei, a Roman bookseller in the Corso, as illustrations to guide books. Apparently clients could choose from the plates which images they wanted bound into their books. The quality varied, some works being rushed round to Amidei so that the artist could get the money to buy a meal. Piranesi re-issued the smaller scale prints in 1765.
