Ahinata Te Rangitautini (Kapekape) of the Tuhourangi tribe was painted by Goldie on several occasions. The painting’s title and portrayal of a slumped downcast Kapekape sitting in decay, suggests a substantial passing of time. Kapekape wore a tamoko on her nostril and on her shoulders and like Guide Sophia, she was a survivor of the Tarawera erruption. Before her death, she lived at Whakarewarewa in a whare adjacent to Sophia’s. This painting shows her possibly outside her house. (Chic Colonials: Ataahua, 2003)
