Biography
Born 1840 in Hüsten (now a part of Arnsberg), in the kingdom of Prussia (now in the state of Nordrhein-Westphalen, Germany).
Son of the engraver and gunsmith Anton Ludwig Teutenberg, who is reputed to have worked for King Wilhelm IV of Prussia.
Immigrated to New Zealand, arriving aboard the Rob Roy (from London) on 25 March 1866 in Auckland. Teutenberg soon established himself with premises in Wellesley Street East on the site of the Central Library. He produced a large number of dies for stamps and medals and contributed carving to a number of pieces of furniture by Anton Seuffert as well as various buildings in Auckland.
Teutenberg eventually moved to a small-holding near Mt Roskill where he lived until his death in 1933.
