Biography
John Miller is an award-winning photographer renowned for his documentation of protest in Aotearoa New Zealand.
He began taking photographs in 1967, capturing demonstrations against the Vietnam War. Since then, Miller has worked as a freelance photographer, involved in and helping record various protest movements, including against the 1981 Springbok rugby tour, at Waitangi, land marches and occupations, and the activities of Ngā Tamatoa. His works are a comprehensive archive of the social, cultural and political histories of Aotearoa New Zealand, well known through their reproduction in books, exhibitions and school resources.
In 2003, Miller received a Media Peace Prize Lifetime Award and in 2009 was granted the Marti Friedlander Photographic Award.
