Biography
It can be assumed that Lindsay F Fraser was born in Auckland. He attended Auckland Grammar School and studied at Elam School of Fine Arts from 1929-33. He was known to be something of a 'character' and was described by fellow students as 'flamboyant'. During his student days he was considered to be an upcoming painter who made portraits strong in conception and handling.

In 1934, along with other Elam Students, Fraser exhibited works in the Auckland Art Gallery's Print Room as an initiative by then director John Barr. Fraser contribued two drawings - a portrait and figure study - and an oil painting of a nude. After art school Fraser shared a studio with other Elam Students at Victoria Arcade, Queen Street. He belonged to Elam's Rutland Group (1935-1958) and was an Archibald Prize entrant in 1935.
