Biography
Francis Seymour Haden (1818–1910) was an eminent London surgeon who pursued a parallel career as leading etcher and collector of prints. In 1880 Haden founded the renowned Society of Painter-Etchers at his home at 38 Hertford Street, Mayfair, London, spearheading what became known as the ‘Etching Revival’ in Britain. A champion of etching as an original and creative art form, rather than as a simply reproductive medium, Haden emphasised a minimal yet expressive linearity.
