Charles Grignon

“Born in 1716; died in 1810, in Kentish Town. Draughtsman, engraver (burin). Anatomical subjects. Born of French parents, Charles Grignon I was probably related to Jacques Grignon. In 1755, he was a member of the committee set up to organise the establishment of the Royal Academy. His early works include several plates for Labinius’s work on anatomy published in 1757 by Knapton. He also worked on illustrations for the volume of Antique Statues after drawings by Dalton, for The Vatican Tapestries published in 1753 and for Bell’s British Poems. His engravings include Two Views of the Foundlings’ Hospital; Garrick in the Role of Richard III, of 1745 and engraved in collaboration with Hogarth; and Phyrne and Xenocrates after Salvator Rosa.”
