(typed, attached to mount, l.c.). 10 Oak Avenue, Mt Albert, 1880s.. This very attractive house, with bay windows under a deep veranda, was built for Frederick Battley, general manager of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company, and was later occupied by the Batkin family who always referred to the balcony over the entrance as the "romeo". F.W.Gamble, first headmaster of the Mt Albert Grammar School, lived here for more than twenty years..
