(typed, attached to mount, l.c.) St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Symonds Street, 1847 and 1882. Walter Robertson and Matthew Henderson, architects. The stone nave by Robertson dates from 1847 and the portico and tower, by henderson, from 1882. The tower, 123 feet high, is a fine example of the superimposed classical orders of architecture. The meeting house form, plain and rectangular without any chancel, was still favoured by Presbyterians and nonconformists generally, long after the Gothic Revival had altered the appearance of Anglican and Catholic churches.
