Peter Black
Self Portrait, 1979

Artwork Detail
A photographic self-portrait usually involves quite a different process from that used in painted versions of self. Rather than posing before a mirror, the artist sets up the camera and stares into its lens. Peter Black’s direct gaze and bare chest suggest the revelation of self often associated with self-portraiture. (Intimate Portraits, 2005)
