Emma McIntyre
Artwork Detail
This work was acquired from Emma McIntyre’s graduation exhibition Pinkisms at Art Center College of Design, Pasadena (2021). That same year she had an exhibition Pour plenty on the worlds, at Chris Sharp Gallery, Los Angeles, California which was reviewed by leading painting critic and art historian Suzanne Hudson for Artforum magazine, and Cat Kron for Flash Art. These exhibitions mark the beginnings of McIntyre’s matured painterly style in which she builds a field of painterly expression from variations of staining and wash, to inscribed, impressions of her body with finger marks, and oil stick line. This composite of paint techniques, and the subtle impression of pictorial space within an otherwise abstract field reveals a rich impression of electric palette and exploration of ‘liveness’ in the work.
