Martin Creed
Work No. 2575
Artwork Detail
Martin Creed has said that his works comprise ‘a small thing made louder’, and Work No. 2575 is precisely that as two big eyes blink on a continuous loop. What’s important in Creed’s work is that the viewer is placed in a position of wrestling with the same questions about art as the artist, and it is art’s ability to ‘say’ anything at all that is Creed’s concern. At the same time the focused experience on allegedly the most important bodily organs raises questions about the senses, subjectivity and mortality, as well as interrogating art and art history.
